SWS Athletic Awards and Criteria 

Major awards are as follows:

All sports award – given to a student who competes for an SWS team in every sports season.  If there are 2 sports in the same season then must compete in at least one of them (Example – cross country and soccer are in the same season…must participate in one of them to qualify for that season)  removal from a team would disqualify someone for this award. 

Spike Award – Consideration for this award are but not limited to, Hard working, never quit, commitment/dedication to SWS sports, leadership qualities, participates on multiple SWS sports teams, positive contributions 

Principals Award – Consideration for this award are but not limited to, participates on multiple SWS sports teams, high academic achievement.  Generally given to a grade 8 students, however other grades may be considered. 

George Gillett Sportsmanship award – Participates on multiple SWS sports teams, Always demonstrates positive attitude, positive behavior, and effort, has leadership qualities, dedicated to SWS teams, demonstrates modesty in victory and gracious in defeat. 

James S Bigger award – Given to a promising grade 8 athlete who is likely going to play sports or has the potential to play at OHS, financial need is also a consideration.  The award is held in trust at OHS. 

Male & Female Athlete of the year – Considerations for this award are, but not limited to, participates on multiple SWS sports teams, great attitude on/off the court/field, commitment to SWS sports teams, leadership qualities, willing to help team mates, positive sportsmanship, top performer, succeeding in the classroom and appropriate behaviours at SWS and other venues. 

Garry Brooks Community Involvement Award – Considerations for this award are, but not limited to, a community member who is involved with the Athletic program at SWS.  Coaching hours, fundraising, organizing , managing, volunteering in other roles are all considered.  Adding to a positive overall environment to the school is also a consideration.
